“Affordable Choice” 1891-S San Francisco Morgan Silver Dollar --
This vintage silver dollar was released well over 100 years ago as the Western Frontier was beginning to close. Huge numbers of U.S. Treasury bags of this issue were later lost in government melts, so it’s a tough find in mint-state quality. In our clearly detailed Very Fine quality or better, the 1891 Philadelphia (no mintmark) Morgan is almost 70% more available than this 1891-S, but generally costs the same. And now this San Francisco issue is on sale!
“Date’s Key Scarcity” 1896-S Morgan Silver Dollar --
The San Francisco Mint issue is far and away the scarcest Morgan dollar for the 1896 date. In mint-state quality, this S-mintmark issue is genuinely rare, selling for four figures when one turns up. Most of the mintage was kept in Treasury bags and the vast majority lost in government melts. So it’s also a tough find in our nicely detailed Very Fine quality. A silver dollar encyclopedia estimates that as few as 55,000 may exist in VF quality or better grades.
