1921-D Morgan and 1922-D Peace Silver Dollar Pair, Very Fine |
|
The Denver Mint opened in 1906, thus the 1921-D Morgan was the first and only Morgan to carry a “D” mintmark. The 1921 engraving differs slightly from earlier dies and the “micro” D mintmark was a short-lived experiment. One year later the Denver Mint produced the first D-Mint Peace silver dollar. It had a mintage less than one-third that of the 1922 Philadelphia issue. And today only a fraction of those survive in our Very Fine or better quality. The “D” mintmark appears above the tip of the eagle’s tail. Our set includes both historic issues in clearly detailed Very Fine quality. They saw only light circulation over nine decades ago.
