1926 & 1935 Philadelphia Mint Peace Dollars Brilliant Uncirculated |
As the Peace dollar series approached the quota set by Congress at its inception, this 1926 issue’s production was reduced to just 20% of the previous year’s Philadelphia mintage — and just 4% of the 1922 Philadelphia output. Today as few as 58,000 are estimated to survive in mint-state quality by a silver dollar encyclopedia. Our Brilliant Uncirculated quality retains nice original luster and shows no sign of wear. Philadelphia issues carry
no mintmark.
The 1935 Peace dollar proved to be the last silver dollar that would ever circulate in U.S. commerce. Only 1,576,000 were struck by the principal Philadelphia mint in its final production of circulating U.S. silver dollars. The great majority were melted, so today it’s estimated that as few as 35,000 BUs may survive (just 2% of the original mintage). That makes the principal Mint’s final 1935 Peace dollar issue a coveted scarcity in our Brilliant Uncirculated quality.
