Merely 15,538 sets were issued 57 years ago. There hasn’t been a regular U.S. mint set production anywhere near as low since (they’ve been up to 187 times higher). Just two years later, the 1955 mint set’s output shot up over 300% to 49,656. This vintage set contains 30 pristine Brilliant Uncirculated issues, ten struck at Philadelphia (no-mintmark), ten at Denver (“D”) and ten at San Francisco (“S”). 18 of the coins have 90% silver content. U.S. Mint sets were not packaged in cellophane until 1959.
