1986 & 1987 U.S. Silver Eagle Proofs |
First 1986 Coveted Keystone “Walking Liberty” Silver Dollar Proof --
This largest silver dollar in American history was introduced in 1986 to great popular enthusiasm. It recreated in much bigger form the famous 1916 “Walking Liberty” half dollar design regarded as the finest American silver coin engraving. This spectacularly gorgeous first proof issue had a mintage just 27% of the first Brilliant Uncirculated issue of 1986. And it’s incomparably more stunning, with deep-etched frosted engravings and dazzling mirror backgrounds. Reg. $149. $129 (#14251).
U.S. Second-Year 1-Oz. 1987 Silver Eagle Proof --
Most silver eagle collectors own the regular BU issues, whose mintages tended to be fairly substantial. But the most beautiful and coveted form of these coins are the spectacularly minted proofs. Superbly struck by the San Francisco Mint, silver Eagle proofs feature deeply etched and elegantly frosted engravings. And the backgrounds have a dazzling mirror-like look for a stunning contrast. This impressive 1987 proof issue had a mintage of less than 8% of the Brilliant Uncirculated issue that year.
