1986 U.S. Prestige Proof Set 7-coin |
|
Prestige proof sets include the commemorative coins issued that year and are BY FAR the scarcest form of America’s popular proofs, the finest-quality coins issued by the U.S. Mint. This 7-coin 1986 prestige proof set includes the enormously popular “Statue of Liberty” silver dollar and copper-nickel half dollar proofs. The dollar presents Lady Liberty in New York Harbor with Ellis Island (“Gateway to America”) in the background. On the reverse side is a closeup of Liberty’s Torch of Freedom. Also included, in superlative proof form, are the date’s regular issue cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar. The set’s 599,317 mintage was merely 25% of the regular proof set’s output.
