British Virgin Islands 2011 “Twin Towers” BU: On September 11, 2001, unthinkable atrocities shook our country. As the 10th anniversary of those monumental events arrives, the world remembers and honors those affected. The award-winning Pobjoy Mint presents this memorial on behalf of the British Virgin Islands. Shown are the twin towers soaring above the Manhattan skyline. Appearing below is the simple inscription, “Lest We Forget.” The unforgettable date of “11th Sept. 2001” is also inscribed. A unique privy mark features a dove with an olive branch and the number 10 indicating the anniversary.
British Virgin Islands 2011 “Queen’s 85th Birthday” Crown BU: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 85th birthday this year. The award-winning Pobjoy Mint on behalf of the British Virgin Islands honors her with this splendid issue. The reigning Monarch’s Birthday has been celebrated since 1748, with a Trooping the Colour ceremony. Shown on the reverse of this Brilliant Uncirculated copper-nickel coin is Her Majesty riding side-saddle at one such ceremony. A unique double effigy of Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse. Mary Gillick’s portrait that first appeared on coins at the start of Her Majesty’s reign is combined beautifully with a second, up-to-date image. Both Brilliant Uncirculated copper-nickel.
