The charming “hens and chicks” reverse and Brian Boru harp obverse originated in 1928 as part of the Irish Free State’s initial coin issuance. This 1968 specimen was the final issue before the adoption of decimal system coinage which introduced a much smaller penny coin. The ancient harp shown resides in Trinity College, Dublin. The “Penny” and “Ireland” inscriptions are in Gaelic. The bronze issue, clad in 24-karat gold, makes a great gift and good luck charm. Brilliant Uncirculated. 32mm
