England's award-winning Pobjoy Mint, on behalf of the Isle of Man, honored the 40th anniversary of the test flight of the turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner, successfully completed on April 9, 1969. The English-French Concorde eventually operated close to 50,000 flights, more than twice as fast as regular commercial jetliners. Shown is the "big bird" above five world-famous landmarks: the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, Statue of Liberty, Christ Redeemer and the Bahrain Trade Center. These images represent the five main countries that were serviced by the Concorde. Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse of this Brilliant Uncirculated copper-nickel issue. 38.6mm
