After striking Pearl Harbor, Japanese forces attacked the Philippines in early 1942. American and Filipino troops heroically resisted at Bataan, but were forced to yield when supplies ran out. The infamous Bataan Death March of American and Filipino prisoners followed. General MacArthur returned to recapture Bataan in January, 1945.
