Once upon a time, currency was backed by gold, and some was even redeemable for gold coin. This vintage gold certificate promised the bearer $10 in gold coin "on demand" (any bank would oblige). To reinforce the assurance, the note's reverse side shone in brilliant gold color. Pictured is Michael Hillegas, America's Treasurer during the Revolutionary War. Very Good.
