This first small cent used in American commerce set the size standard for all future U.S. pennies. It was the nation's first copper-nickel coin, known as the "white cent" or "nick" (it replaced 100% copper large pennies). The spectacular Flying Eagle engraving was quickly retired after just two years, due to minting problems. The antebellum reverse entwined the North's corn and wheat and the South's cotton and tobacco. Our Fine set includes all three regular issues (1857, 1858 "small letters" and 1858 "large letters). 19mm
