U.S. 1879-CC & 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollars Very Fine |
Very Elusive 1879-CC Carson City Mint Morgan Silver Dollar. Just 756,000 were struck for commerce by the small branch mint in Nevada, near the fabled Comstock Lode (most of the silver mined there was shipped to the San Francisco Mint). It was by far the lowest individual production for 1879 Morgan silver dollars. Today expert opinion holds that as few as 2,000 may survive in the nicely detailed Very Fine quality we offer or higher grades. The prized "CC" mintmark appears below the eagle and wreath.
Extremely Low-Mintage 1881-CC Carson City Morgan Silver Dollar. Its 296,000 production was easily the lowest in the first seven years of the Morgan silver dollar series. The 1881-S San Francisco Morgan mintage was over 40 times higher! Due to the politics of the day, vastly more Comstock Lode silver was sent across the mountains to San Francisco, although the Carson City Mint was close by in Nevada. Today it's estimated that perhaps 1,000 circulated specimens exist in our Very Fine quality or higher. Both 38.1mm
