U.S. 1959 P & D Franklin Half Dollar Pair Brilliant Uncirculated |
|
It was the year when Hawaii became the 50th state, Castro took over Cuba, De Gaulle assumed the presidency of France and “Ben Hur” won the Oscar for best picture. Fifty years ago, the Franklin half dollar was the nation’s largest silver coin (U.S. silver dollars hadn’t been minted since 1935). A half dollar got two kids into a movie in 1959 or one into a major league ballpark. Now get both nostalgic 1959 Franklin 90% silver releases in original Brilliant Uncirculated quality: the no-mintmark Philadelphia and D-mintmark Denver issues. Franklin was the first non-president actual person to appear on a regular (non-commemorative) U.S. coin.
