U.S. 1986 Silver Eagle Proof |
The largest silver dollar in American history was
introduced in 1986 to great popular enthusiasm.
It recreated in much bigger form the famous 1916
"Walking Liberty" half dollar design regarded as the
finest American silver coin engraving. This spectacularly gorgeous first proof issue had a mintage just 23% of the first Brilliant Uncirculated issue of 1986. And it's incomparably more stunning, with deep-etched frosted engravings and dazzling mirror backgrounds. Clad in the Stars and Stripes, Liberty confidently strides into the dawn of a new era. On the reverse is a unique rendering of the Presidential Seal, with an eagle holding a peace branch and arrows of preparedness below 13 stars representing the original states. 40.6mm
