U.S. 3-Coin Two Cent and Three Cent Type Set Fine |
The 1864-1871 copper U.S. 2 cent piece emerged at the height of the Civil War. It was the first coin with the motto, "In God We Trust," above the Union Shield and laurel. The reverse displays sheaves of wheat. The 1851-1855 silver 3 cent piece (or "trime") was useful in buying standard 3 cent stamps in its day. It has a distinctive shield within star obverse and Roman numeral III within C (100) reverse. The 1865-1889 nickel 3 cent appeared after the Civil War, when super-hard nickel was no longer needed for armaments. It boasts a pretty Liberty personification and elegant III within laurel wreath reverse. All come in well-preserved Fine quality. Our choice of dates. 23.6mm, 14mm, 19.9mm
