Interesting Facts About U.S. Cents:

-- The Flying Eagle cent introduced the small penny to U.S. coinage. The Flying Eagle cent was only minted from 1856-1858.
-- The Indian Princess engraving on the Indian Head penny is actually a representation of Liberty. The Indian Head penny was minted from 1859-1909.
-- The first Lincoln cent of 1909 was issued for the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The Lincoln cent with a wheat ear reverse was minted from 1909-1958. The Lincoln memorial reverse replaced it in 1959 and continued to 2008. New reverses are being issued for 2009.
