Begun in 1948, the Franklin half dollar series was due to continue for at least 25 years. But it was cut short after the assassination of President Kennedy and the introduction of the Kennedy half dollar in 1964. At the time of its issue in 1963, no one expected this Philadelphia Mint issue would be the last in the popular series. His coin portrait reproduces the 1779 Houdon bust of Franklin. The Liberty Bell reverse was adapted from the U.S. 1926 "Declaration of Independence" half dollar. Stunning MS-63 quality. 30.6mm
