U.S. Morgan Silver Dollar 1878 8-Tailfeather Very Fine |
Struck only by the principal Philadelphia Mint, this historic first Morgan dollar had an abbreviated mintage of just 750,000. Minting was stopped after an ornithologist protested that eagles always have an odd number of feathers. Later Morgan dollars were struck with seven-tailfeather eagles. Our Very Fine quality clearly displays detailing. Diameter 38.1mm, Weight 26.73 grams, Composition .900 silver

First Morgan |
| Excellent looking coin. Very little wear apparent. Last 1878 I needed except 7 over 8. Got all the rest in change in the 1950s and 60s. |
