The Old West's San Francisco Mint reached a peak of minting excellence in the early 1880s. The 1880-S and 1881-S Morgan silver dollars are regarded as the best-struck for commerce in the entire 1878-1921 series. The recently opened San Francisco Mint possessed the finest minting equipment of the day and specialized in striking the splendid new Morgan dollar. The silver used had been mined at great Western bonanza sites such as the Comstock Lode and Tombstone. Our Brilliant Uncirculated quality has nice original luster and no sign of wear (some bags marks are present, as is normal).
