U.S. Morgan Silver Dollar 1891-S About Uncirculated |
A silver dollar encyclopedia estimates that as little as 1% of the 1891-S San Francisco issue's original output survives today in mint-state quality. That's an exceptionally low Brilliant Uncirculated survival rate. The reason is that a very high proportion of this issue's mintages was held in reserve at the Treasury and banks and later lost in the huge U.S. government melts during the world wars. While BU's for the 1891-S Morgan currently sell for well over $100, the next best grading is surprisingly affordable. About Uncirculated quality boasts original luster and just a trace of wear. 38.1mm
