The principal Philadelphia Mint’s Morgan dollar output in the early years of the 20th century was vastly lower than that of the peak 1880s. When the Morgan series was suspended after 1904, a large proportion of recent mintages was placed in storage. And huge numbers were lost in government melts during the world wars. Today it’s estimated that up to ten times more of some earlier Morgan issues survive in mint-state quality than this 1902 Philadelphia issue. Less than 2% of its 8 million mintage are estimated to exist today in the Brilliant Uncirculated quality we offer.Brilliant Uncirculated quality has nice original luster and no sign of wear (some bags marks are present, as is normal).
