U.S. Peace Silver Dollar 1923-D Brilliant Uncirculated |
|
Struck early in the series, the 1923-D Peace silver dollar of the Denver Mint is surprisingly elusive in mint-state quality. A silver dollar encyclopedia estimates that as few as 34,000 may survive today in Brilliant Uncirculated grades. It would mean that merely 0.5% - half of 1% - of the Denver Mint's original output exists in BU quality. An extremely high proportion of the 1923-D BU's held in reserve at the Treasury and banks were later melted down during World War II and lost forever to collectors.
