According to a silver dollar encyclopedia, as few as 50,000 of this San Francisco Mint issue may survive today in mint-state quality. That’s less than 1% of its original circulation mintage, which was far below the output of the first 1922-S and 1923-S Peace dollar issues. In our Brilliant Uncirculated quality, the 1926-S dollar is the most affordable of 1924-1935 S-mintmark issues in the series. The “S” mintmark appears at left above the eagle’s tail.
