This type also does not carry the "E PLURIBUS UNUM" of the earlier Reich quarter, but instead fills the reverse's space with a larger eagle. The 1866-1891 "Seated Liberty/Motto" quarter bears "IN GOD WE TRUST" above the reverse's eagle. The 1892-1916 "Liberty Head" quarter carried a new Presidential Seal reverse perfected with great care over a period of years by the U.S. Mint's Chief Engraver Charles Barber.
