Huge "Leonardo’s Vitruvian Man" Bronze Medal of France
Celebrate the man whose works inspired The Da Vinci Code....
Born in 1452, Leonardo da Vinci was a multi-faceted genius. As artist, engineer and inventor, he was a man ahead of his time, conceiving ideas that anticipated many developments of modern science. The obverse of this impressive Paris Mint bronze medal reproduces Da Vinci’s only known self-portrait. It is rendered as a mirror image of the original in honor of the reverse style of writing he often used. His name, in French, and his date of birth in Roman numerals, are also shown. The reverse displays Leonardo’s famous Vitruvian Man drawing, a work showing his fascination with proportion and man’s relation to nature. The Leonardo quotation translates, "Don’t you know that our very soul reflects an intrinsic harmony?" The clear plastic display stand showcases both sides.
