U.S. Standing Liberty Silver Quarter 1917-1930 Type II Good
|Item Number: 19610|
|The original 1917 "Standing Liberty" quarter provoked a famous controversy when released. The Society for the Suppression of Vice charged the coin with obscenity -- Liberty has an exposed breast and thigh -- and demanded its recall. Meanwhile, the U.S. entered World War I and it was deemed appropriate that Liberty be "covered up" in medieval chain-mail! Every later 1917-1930 "Covered Breast" Type II issue carries the revised design. Well-traveled Good quality. Minted 1916-1930. Our choice of date.
