1963 & 1964 U.S. Proof Set Pair

| U.S. 1963 “Last Franklin” Silver 5-Coin Proof Set.
When this set was issued no one anticipated it would be the last with a Franklin silver half dollar. That series was scheduled to continue through 1972. But after the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy, it was supplanted by the new JFK type. The only way to obtain a 1963 proof Franklin half is to break up these proof sets, so fewer remain intact.
U.S. 1964 “Last 90% Silver” 5-Coin Proof Set.
It was the last year when all circulation U.S. dimes, quarters and half dollars were struck with the traditional 90% silver content. And it was the last time the principal Philadelphia Mint issued U.S. proof sets. Included is the first Kennedy half dollar proof in 90% silver. Beginning in 1968, all later regular U.S. proof sets were struck by the San Francisco Mint.|
