U.S. Kennedy Half Dollars 1964-Date PDS Brilliant Uncirculated/Proof
|Item Number: 43824|
|After President Kennedy's assassination over fifty years ago in 1963, there was strong national support for a commemorative coin. Five days later the half dollar was decided upon and in just two months the new coins were in production. It was the last large U.S. circulation coin struck in traditional 90% silver. When silver's intrinsic value rose in 1965, the Kennedy's content was reduced to 40% silver. Later issues were struck in copper-nickel. |
Our comprehensive set includes the original 1964 silver half dollar, the most collected coin date in history, as well as key issues such as the 1970-D, last regular BU 40% silver issue in the series, the 1979 Type 2 Clear S proof and the 1997-S proof that was only issued as part of that year's low mintage proof set. (Silver proofs from 1992 to date are not included.) Please also note that due to availability issues, the 2008-S & 2012-S Proof coins are NOT included.
