|U.S. 1883 "Relative Bargain" Morgan Silver Dollar.
Morgan mintages steadily rose in the 1880s, but many were held in reserve and later lost in government melts. So original mintages can be very deceiving. This 1883 Philadelphia Morgan had a production of 12,291,039. But today fewer than 10% are estimated to survive in our Very Fine quality or better.
U.S. 1883-S "Falling Mintage" Morgan Silver Dollar.
By the mid-1880s, western silver mines production had slowed so Morgan mintages fell dramatically. This issues output was just 6.2 million, about half the number produced there just two years before. BUs of this issue sell for almost $1,500. Our Very Fine quality saw only light
circulation in the Old West.
