"Lowest Mintage in Decades" 10-Coin U.S. 1987, 1988 and 1998 Mint Sets. No Kennedy half dollars were issued for commerce in 1987. The only way to acquire 1987 Kennedy BUs for complete sets is to break up existing Philadelphia and Denver mint sets for that date. Since their original mintage was just 2,890,758, comparatively few denomination sets now remain intact. Production numbers for the 1988 and 1998 mint sets were even lower, neither reaching the 2 million mark. Included in all three sets are specially minted Brilliant Uncirculated specimens of all ten U.S. circulation coins for the year, as issued by the P-mintmark Philadelphia facility and the D-mintmark Denver branch mint.
