U.S. Morgan Silver Dollars 1887-S & 1897-S BU
"Low Mintage and Low Survival" 1887-S Morgan Silver Dollar BU.
Its 1.8 million San Francisco mintage was far and away the lowest for the date. That year 11 million Morgans were struck at New Orleans and 20 million at Philadelphia. Today comparatively few 1887-S BU Morgans remain. After melts and attrition just 57,000 or 3% of the original mintage may now survive in mint-state quality. Our Brilliant Uncirculated quality has nice original luster and no sign of wear.
"Tough Find" 1897-S Morgan Silver Dollar BU. All but one of the S-Mint Morgan issues from the span 1892-1904 sell for several hundred to thousands of dollars in BU quality. The exception is this 1897-S issue, which is scarce in its own right but reasonably affordable. It's estimated that as few as 75,000 mint-state issues may survive. And the 1897-S issue is also highly regarded for its excellent strikes. In 1897, total Morgan silver dollar mintages were the lowest of the late 1890s.
