San Francisco Mint 1924-S Peace Silver Dollar, Extra Fine
As few as 27,000 may survive in this nice quality or better grades
When the San Francisco Mint began to release its comparatively low-mintage 1.7 million Peace silver dollars, the post-war U.S. dollar had become a world standard. About that time, one Peace silver dollar could have bought 4 trillion German marks. The only other 1924 U.S. Peace dollars were issued by the principal Philadelphia Mint – seven times as many were struck there. A silver dollar encyclopedia estimates that as few as 27,000 of the 1924-S issue exist today in our sharply detailed Extra Fine quality or higher grades. Over 50 times as many of the 1924 no-mintmark Philadelphia issue are estimated to survive in XF+ quality today! In Brilliant Uncirculated quality, the 1924-S currently sells for $435; our scarce XF quality is relatively affordable.
