Introduced in 1986, the U.S. silver eagle contains a full troy ounce of pure silver. It’s the largest U.S. silver dollar in American minting history and enormously popular with collectors. The “Walking Liberty” design was adapted in larger form from the 1916-1947 U.S. circulating silver half dollar.
