U.S. 1918 "Lincoln of Illinois" Silver Half Dollar
A Handsome Tribute to "Honest Abe"--
Celebrate President's Day and honor one of our greatest leaders, Abraham Lincoln. This commemorative half dollar coin was issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Illinois' admission to the Union in 1818. Illinois, "Land of Lincoln", is where Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president, spent much of his life and built his political career. George T. Morgan designed the beardless portrait of the young Lincoln based on a statue in Springfield. His engraving captures the deep reflectiveness of the future great president. The reverse portrays the Illinois State Seal and motto. It was the first of many U.S. commemorative coins to honor a state. Our sharply detailed Extra Fine quality retains virtually every tiny detail.
