 U.S. “Sacagawea” Dollar Proofs, 2003-2005
Limited-mintage, finest-quality form with double-struck frosted engravings …
Two compact dollar coin types have been introduced in attempts to phase out less-sturdy dollar bills from U.S. commerce. The copper-nickel Susan B. Anthony dollar didn’t catch on in commerce in 1979-1981 and later in 1999. One reason was its shared metal content with the slightly smaller quarter. When the same-size Sacagawea U.S. dollar emerged in 2000, its copper-zinc golden hue was clearly distinguishable. But while over a billion BU’s were struck for circulation that year, it still wasn’t popular in commerce. But it has been a hit in superb proof form exclusively minted at San Francisco, with deep-struck frosted engravings and mirror fields. We’re offering the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Sacagawea dollar proofs at a special package price.
